Lesson 2, 19/1/14

Today is our first proper lesson on computing. We were given a basic introduction on the computing language that we are going to learn for the rest of the year, Python. Before this class, I have already done some research online and found out that Python is getting more and more popular these days because of its clean syntax and expansive libraries and hence is preferred by many. However, it also requires extremely clear indentation for it to function well. Before the start of the class, we were also encouraged by our teachers to go take up free online HTML and CSS courses during our free time as it will come in handy.
We then proceed to learn about the basics of Python. Firstly, we learnt that we should not be writing codes in the shell itself and should open a file just for the codes as the shell is only for us to test out our codes and not store our codes. We also learnt the basic print function as well as different types of variables, such as how to print a string of words as well as what is float and integer. From this lesson, I was amazed by how the Python language function and was looking forward to the other potentials coding can bring us. After this lesson, I realised that coding was not as easy as I have thought as it requires a logical flow of things and I am quite bad at visualizing things, but nevertheless I was still anticipating the next lesson.
